A risk map is a visual representation showing identified risks positioned by their likelihood and impact.
A risk map (or risk heat map) is a graphic tool that visualizes the organization's risk profile. It places each risk on a likelihood vs impact grid, facilitating prioritization and communication of risk status to top management.
The risk matrix is the table with likelihood and impact scales. The risk map is the visual representation (heat map) of risks placed within that matrix.
Most common are 5x5 matrices. Organizations with lower maturity can use 3x3 as a starting point.
