Sector differences confirm that AI governance cannot be implemented with a one-size-fits-all model and that oversight frameworks must be calibrated to each industry's specific risk profile.
Analysis of the 45 documented AI-assisted executive decision cases identifies three recurring patterns with distinct implications for corporate governance. Pattern A, representing 34% of cases (15 of 45), groups decisions where undetected biases in input data led to suboptimal outcomes. In these cases, executive teams accepted algorithmic recommendations without verifying sample representativeness or the currency of historical data used. The distribution of these three patterns suggests that the optimal combination is neither full automation nor total autonomy, but a structured verification protocol that preserves executive critical capacity while leveraging AI analytical capability.

Its 12 indicators assess: frequency of AI use in strategic decisions, proportion of decisions made exclusively based on algorithmic outputs, average time dedicated to autonomous versus assisted analysis, ability to articulate reasoning behind a decision without resorting to AI data, frequency of requesting independent second analysis, and patterns of reverting to AI tools when human analysis generates uncertainty. A score above 7.2 out of 10 in this dimension indicates critical dependency according to the study thresholds. Dimension 2 (Decision Quality) compares outcomes of AI-assisted decisions versus independent decisions. Its 12 indicators measure: percentage deviation between projections and actual results, frequency of input data bias detection, rate of human correction of algorithmic recommendations, response time to scenarios not foreseen by models, and ability to integrate qualitative variables that AI does not process. The study benchmark establishes that organizations scoring below 5.0 in this dimension show 340% more deviations from their strategic projections. Dimension 3 (Institutional Governance) evaluates formal AI oversight frameworks. Its 12 indicators verify: existence of board-approved AI policy, policy review frequency, oversight responsibility assignment, algorithm audit protocols, accountability mechanisms, integration with existing risk management framework, board AI training, and budget allocated to AI oversight. The recommended minimum threshold for this dimension is 6.0 out of 10; organizations below this threshold lack the necessary structures to systematically manage algorithmic risk. The composite score across all three dimensions generates an organizational cognitive autonomy index that enables comparison across organizations of the same sector and size.
