ISO 9001 · Quality management

Quality is demonstrated in the process.

ISO 9001 sets requirements for a quality management system. It connects leadership, processes, customer requirements, risks, performance evaluation and improvement. The useful starting point is what an organisation can demonstrate when it says that it manages quality. ISO 9001:2026 is the current edition referenced by the official source. Analysis explicitly labelled ISO 9001:2015 on this website concerns that historical edition. For an existing certificate, confirm the applicable edition and transition arrangements through the certification body's current institutional guidance.

What to examine in the system

From intent to evidence.

Processes and customer requirements

Connect inputs, outputs and responsibilities across processes.

Performance and accountable decisions

Review how customer requirements are translated into measurable results.

Corrective action and improvement

Show what changed after an issue and whether the action was effective.

Read the process before the procedure

Follow a real activity from its inputs to its result. Examine what the organisation promised, how the work was controlled and what happened when a requirement was missed. A procedure is useful when it describes and supports that operation. An audit should test the connection through records, observation and conversations with the people responsible.

Ask what the measurement changed

A dashboard gains value when people use it to act. Examine how the organisation interprets performance, customer feedback and changing conditions. Find the decision, its owner and the follow-up. Corrective action should address the cause of a problem and include a review of effectiveness. Closing a document is not enough to demonstrate that the problem was resolved.

Keep the edition and the route visible

Use the official ISO entry to identify the current document and its status. Keep historical analysis labelled with the edition it examines. For certification, share the organisation's activities, sites and existing certificate with G-CERTI's institutional team. That team confirms the applicable edition and process. A diagnosis or training programme has a different purpose and does not issue a management system certificate.

Evidence worth collecting

  • Process records connected with defined responsibilities and acceptance criteria.
  • Customer requirements, feedback and complaints with traceable follow-up.
  • Performance information used to make decisions and review results.
  • Management review records showing decisions, resources and subsequent action.
  • Internal audit and corrective action records with evidence of effectiveness.

The quality transition

ISO published the 2026 edition on 16 September 2026. Global ACI sets 30 September 2029 as the transition deadline for accredited certifications covered by its document. Confirm the timetable and the edition the certification body can issue within its scope.

Questions that matter

Does ISO 9001 certify each product?

It concerns a quality management system within a defined scope. It does not itself provide product certification or guarantee that every individual product is free of defects.

Which ISO 9001 edition does this website discuss?

The official current reference is ISO 9001:2026. Content labelled ISO 9001:2015 is historical analysis of that edition. Each technical article should identify the document it examines.

Does a diagnostic review amount to certification?

No. A diagnostic review can identify gaps, risks and evidence. A certification body conducts its own process and makes the certification decision within its applicable scope.

How should an existing certificate be reviewed?

Check the standard and edition, certified activities and sites, issuing body and validity. Ask the certification body for current transition guidance rather than assuming a deadline from a summary.
